Maybe There's Hope...

...for Europe.

Vaclav Klaus, president of the Czech Republic is gaining noteriety for his support of free markets in Europe as well as his distaste for Marxism and Al Gore.

From the Article... (here)

"He has blamed what he calls the misguided fight against global warming for contributing to the international financial crisis, branded Al Gore an “apostle of arrogance” for his role in that fight, and accused the European Union of acting like a Communist state."

Well, he is paying for his crimes.  Just read the article.  They absolutely blast him for being arrogant and "twisting facts".

Fact:  Communism, Marxism, and Socialism fail everytime they are tried.
Fact:  Free Markets succeed (Just ask China).
Fact:  Al Gore sucks.

Pipe down, NY Times.

(Edit:  In the interest of not using the 'H' word I have changed ever instance of it to 'strongly dislike' - Roxy said I shouldn't use it so much)

It's starting to become that magical time of year again.  The Thanksgiving turkey will be replaced by Christmas trees and lights and we will turn on the radio to hear our favorite Christmas tunes that incidentally have been on loop since St. Valentine's day.  So in the spirit of holiday cheer I present to you a list of the 5 Christmas songs that I strongly dislike and why I strongly dislike them.  Enjoy.

Little Drummer Boy

Here is the sweet song about a little boy who decided to horde his cash and just play his drum for baby Jesus instead of getting him a present.  Make no mistake, that is not the problem...  although if that is what the kid got for me on my birthday, I'd be ticked.  I strongly dislike this song because everyone does it like it is the best Christmas song ever.  It got made famous by some disco outfit called "BonyM" in the 70’s.  Really?  Look, this is the worst song ever, musically AND lyrically yet there are 1,245,345,332 versions recorded to date (not really).  It's almost as if a musician thinks that this song will legitimize their career as a serious musician.  Heck, even Wyclef Jean recorded it.  You all know how awesome he is, right?

Open letter to the music industry...

Dear Music Industry,

Stop recording "Little Drummer Boy".  It sucks and it does not make your musician legitimate.  Plus, everyone has already done it.

Cease and desist.

Signed,

Spencer Olsen

Feliz Navidad

The Macarena of Christmas Songs has a total of 4 lines in it.  Here are the lyrics:

Feliz Navidad

Feliz Navidad

Feliz Navidad

prospero ano y felicidad

Feliz Navidad

Feliz Navidad

Feliz Navidad

prospero ano y felicidad

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas

From the Bottom of my heart

[repeats]

Repeats?!?!??!?!?!!!!!one!11!!1!!!!!!eleventy!!1!!!!

Every time I hear this song, I want to stab knitting needles in my ears.  If I wanted to hear this crap, I would just walk out to the production area of the shop where it's all mexican polka, all day!  The worst part of this song is that there is a dead spot between repeats.  So just when you think it's over...  think again, sucker!  The only reason that this song still gets airplay is because its diverse.

Happy Xmas (war is over)

Or as most of you know it, that "so this is Christmas" song by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.  Ah Lennon!  You know, most of Hollywood "causers" owe their success to the Beatles.  These clowns picked up every cause they could get their hands on.  And somewhere in the process, every person in the world thought that the Beatles were the smartest people on the earth.  That's right...  nothing says intelligent contribution to the world like a bunch of high, uneducated musicians from the slums of England.  Good job, Hollywood.  So anyway, the most cause-ous of them all, John Lennon got together with awful vocalist/wife Yoko Ono and her band to record a song that strongly dislikes you for having a good time at Christmas while people are starving.  Great.  I'm all cheery now.  Christmas, the holiday of giving, is just not giving enough according to the Lennon/Oko machine.  And if you say: "well, that's ok.  We could all use a reminder that there are people all over the world worse off than us."  That's fine, but can you explain to me why I have to put up with Yoko Ono's voice?!?  It like rubbing sandpaper across tightly stretched Saran Wrap.

Do They Know It's Christmas

Take my reasons for Happy Xmas (war is over) and replace John Lennin and Yoko Ono with Band Aid.  Look, I'm glad that you care about Africa.  Who doesn't?  But half of them are Muslim or believe in angry reptile gods and don't do Christmas anyway, so who cares if it doesn't snow in Africa.  Christmas is not about snow anyway.  I am really tired of a bunch of Musicians telling me that I am not allowed to enjoy the blessings of liberty and faith on Christmas because someone somewhere is starving.  You're not helping.  Awareness through your "craft" is not something you can do to help.  You can help by spending the millions of dollars you spent on recording and distributing the song on the people you want to sing about.  Holy crap, I'll bet that $10 will buy a poor starving kid in Africa a Maserati and a mansion.  So if you want to do something about it, shut up and give your own money first.  Then, I am sure that all the kids who read "People" will hear about it that way.  There's your awareness, jerks.  In the mean time, I'll keep giving to my charities and dropping my change in the red buckets.   I don't need to do it with a guilt trip, thank you very much.

Last Christmas

Wham sucks.  Who better to have a Christmas song than a couple of guys who sound like chicks crying over how fat and lonely they are.  I strongly dislike this song because it is not a Christmas song.  It just has the word "Christmas" in it!  It's a song about losing love.  NOT CHRISTMAS!!!  I can do this with any song by some crappy band.  Watch me...

Take "Quit Playin Games with my Heart" by the Backstreet Boys and let's look at the chorus:

Quit playin' games with my heart (with my heart)

Before you tear us apart (my heart)
Quit
playin' games with my heart
I
should've known from the start
You know you've gotta stop (from my heart)
You're
tearin' us apart (my heart, my heart)
Quit
playin' games with my heart

Ok...  Now let's make it a Christmas Song

Quit playin' games with my heart (on Christmas)

Before you tear us apart (on Christmas)
Quit
playin' games with my heart
I
should've known from the start
You know you've gotta stop (on Christmas)
You're
tearin' us apart (on Christmas,on Christmas)

Quit playin' games with my heart

See how I did that?  I'm a genius.  Now I just sit back and wait for the cash from Payola to roll in.  Look, just because a song has the word Christmas in it, doesn't mean it's a Christmas song.  Does every song with the word 'die' or 'death' automatically become a Halloween classic?  No.  So shut up, George Michael.  Oh and you know what makes that song extra creepy...  It's probably about a guy breaking up with a guy and teenage girls allover the world are still fooled into thinking its about something else.

There you have it.  Now go enjoy your turkey.

Response to Merilee's Politics

Yikes.  Well done, for starters.  I didn't listen to Glenn today.  Just didn't have it in me to fear for the end of the world.

You asked about our currency.  It used to be based on gold.  Coins were originally valued based on their make and weight.  If you had a gold dollar, as the price of gold went up, your dollar had more purchasing power.  As the price went down, your dollar had less purchasing power.  With me so far?
Somewhere along the line, bank notes began to appear.  What this meant was that you gave your gold or silver to the bank and they would issue you a promissory note.  Basically, one paper dollar was worth one dollar of gold.  Gold goes up or down, so does the value of your dollar.  The note was to be redeemable on demand for gold, silver, or whatever was the standard.
Then, the Federal Reserve was created by Woodrow Wilson in 1913 and the rest is history.  Eventually our money has become fiat 0r in other words it has no intrinsic valie; it cannot be redeemed for gold or other currency.  Fiat means that we have to use it and we cannot use things like gold or silver.  As a result, our money's value changes based primarily on exchange rates at international banks to other currencies.
So what happens if you disable all of the currencies of a continent for a single currency?  You have to have a flat exchange rate across the board.  This usually means that all currencies should potentially meet in the middle.  That would be a nightmare for the US as a major international market contender.  Europe was able to get away with it because none of the EU participating nations had currency that was worth spit to begin with.
You are now so cool, you have your own section.

An Open Letter to...

Merilee...

Dear Merilee,

You are not on the "Cool People" list because your blog is not political in nature.   Notice that Bo is also not on the list and neither is my wife.  To make the cut, you need to be politically motivated in your blog.  If you are...  I must then approve of your views.

I love you.

Now if you will excuse me, I am going to turn my pop-tart into poopy.

Good Day.

From Class This Week

Interestingly enough, class this week got into politics pretty heavy.  The class is Social Economics.  Really, really fun class. Best ever.

Here is the exchange between me and Max (my instructor)
Max..
Why Liberty?  Why is Liberty the highest, best measure for benefit?
Why not, for example, Justice?  Why not "The Greatest Good for the Greatest Number"?
Why would you argue that Liberty should be the measure?

Me..
Because it is a right that we are endowed with "by our creator".  The basic fundamental human right is choice.  We all have it naturally.  To choose this over that, right over wrong, etc.  All of our basic human rights should first be preserved.  That is what I love so much about the Declaration of Independence.  It spells out, at the beginning, our rights as human beings.  I believe that to be true.  We all have the right to choose before we have justice.  Justice, as a right, is a result of choice not its predecessor.  Without choice, there is no right or wrong, good or evil, lightness or darkness.  Justice needs choice as we need justice.  But to have justice, we must first be able to choose.  And to be allowed to choose is liberty.  Liberty preserves our agency.  When we lose liberty, we lose our agency or choice and are beholden to the choices of our government.  Why is it better that one man or group of men make the choices for all of us?  To place trust in so few is to narrow the scope of individual needs and circumstances.  A proper choice for one may not be the proper choice for another.

That now raises a question about our current government.  Our government here in the US is not a democracy.  Certain democratic elements are combined with the format of a republic.  We are left to choose those who will make our laws and we trust them to preserve our liberty.  John Adams once said "The proposition that the people are the best keepers of their own liberties is not true. They are the worst conceivable, they are no keepers at all; they can neither judge, act, think, or will, as a political body."  Even our founders recognized that a mob rule would ultimately fail.  Mr. Adams also said, "Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There was never a democracy that did not commit suicide.". This sentiment buy a founder who could not conceive to trust the people too much coupled with founders like Thomas Jefferson, who in his writings seemed to err strongly on the side of democracy created a great system of government.  A system of government that holds all branches beholden to each other and all to a single constitution which guards our liberties from the choices of a few.

The problem today is that interpretations of simple words meant to safeguard our liberty our too often debated to the point where context becomes blurry.  In this case, I fear that we are losing our liberties.

Roxann is making me move...

...and it's all because of facebook.  Yeah, Roxann has finally re-connected with all of her old friends through facebook and she wants to share our blog with her friends.  Problem is, all of her friends are California Libs.  So I am moving all political commentary here.  Plus, all of my old posts are here also.

Enjoy

Two-fer Friday...

Yeah, I know I just posted some meaningless political drivel, but something else came up in the news this morning.  William Ayers is back in the news doing an interview with ABC (link).  This article is basically the news media throwing a couple of softballs at the former terrorist about his role in damaging the Obama campaign.

If you don't know who William Ayers is, let me give you a brief history.  Back in the 1960's, Ayers was a college student and he was smarter than anyone.  So he took his smart college education and became an anti-establishment, anti-war, pro-socialism activist.  Knowing that the only way to get through to America was to attack it, Ayers helped to form the Weather Underground, or Weathermen, a protest organization that had a knack for intelligence.  This intelligence included protesting the violence of the Vietnam War with... well... violence.  This organization bombed the Capitol, The Pentagon, and many police departments throughout the country.  Their tactics almost always used explosives of some sort and when those weren't available, there were always violent clashes with local police.

So what's got me hot in this interview is a couple of statements from Ayers, defending himself and his terrorist organization.

Quote 1:
"It's not terrorism because it doesn't target people, to kill or injure,"

Quote 2:
"The content of the Vietnam protest is that there were despicable acts going on, but the despicable acts were being done by our goverment... I never hurt or killed anyone,"

On February 16, 1970, San Francisco police office Sgt Brian McDonnell was working at his precinct when a bomb placed on the window ledge of his office exploded.  Sgt. McDonnell was injured along with two other officers.  2 days later on February 18, 1970 Sgt. McDonnell succumbed to his wounds and passed away.  The bomb was set and detonated by members of the Weather Underground.  Larry Grathwol, an FBI mole inside the Weather Underground stated:
"[Ayers] cited as one of the real problems that someone like Bernardine Dohrn had to plan, develop, and carry out the bombing of the police station in San Francisco, and he specifically named her as the person that committed that act. . . . He said that the bomb was placed on the window ledge and he described the kind of bomb that was used to the extent of saying what kind of shrapnel was used in it. . . . [I]f he wasn’t there to see it, somebody who was there told him about it, because he stated it very emphatically."
Bernardine Dohrn was married to Ayers at the time.

Rock County, New York police officers Edward O'Grady and Waverly Brown were responding to a bank robbery in 1981.  They were shot to death.  Along with an armoured car guard. Who were the bank robbers?  Why, they were member of the Weather Underground, of course.  They needed money to continue to finance their organization and didn't care who got in the way.

As far as the two quotes go, you can make your own assumption here.  But making the assertion that violent protests, bombings, and the murder of at least 3 police officers and the wounding of countless others are not terrorist activities because no one got hurt or killed?  Even writing that sentence doesn't make sense.

Faust

At the beginning of September, just as the election was getting into full swing, the O-man was getting pummeled from not only the right, but from Hillary Clinton also. On the 10th of that same month, his O-ness had a sit-down with former President of the United States, Bill Clinton(link). After that meeting, the tone from the Clintons changed to praise and support for the Obamanator. They actually went on the road and started campaigning for Obama. Any of you that I have mentioned this to also know that I have said that there is an appointment for either Bill or Hillary behind it. In order to get the support he needed to win the election, Obama needed the help and support of the great political juggernaut that is the Clinton machine. You just don't win an election without it. Anyway, Emperor O sold his soul to the proverbial devil in order to win.
Tonight, here is the news story posted on Drudge. (link) Sure it's the NY Post, but who knows. Maybe it actually IS true. And if it is, I present to you Madame Secretary(of state), Hillary Rodham-Clinton.

Oh, and for those of you keeping track of how stupid Sarah Palin is, (you know that whole, Africa is a country not a continent thing and other similar slander) turns out that it was all a lie. (link)

Good job, media.

Friday, November 7, 2008

So Tuesday was actually pretty exciting. We as a nation elected the first Black president. I think that's neat. I must say that as the American people have spoken and elected Barak Obama as president that I will give him my support. I hate posting later than I want to, because when I have an idea and don't get it out there, the talk radio guys tend to beat me to it. Not because I'm smart... I'm not. It's just common sense. That said... Glenn Beck says that we should give Obama a 100% approval rating to start with. Fine. I can do that. I have already decided to try and support him without compromising my values. But Obama, starting at 100% is now down to 98%

-1% = Picking Claire McCaskill to the cabinet. Really? This lady is insane and I'm not talking about "nose picking" insane, I mean full out "needs adult diapers" insane. Being from Missouri, I know that this lady is a nightmare. She thinks that Bush should have been impeached for lying to us about yellow cake uranium on Iraq (BTW - the US military found 500 tons in '05) - She admitted to recent drug use and has been implicated in recent ACORN voter fraud. She has tried to cut funding for the troops and loves it when people kill babies. Sorry Mr. President, -1% for you.

-1% = The "wait...what?" moment of the day comes from an admission by the Obama campaign that while the Bush tax cuts need to be repealed, Now is not the time because the economy is in bad shape. Wait...what? So if tax hikes will hurt an ailing economy... WHAT MAKES IT A GOOD IDEA TO BEGIN WITH? They just admitted that repealing the tax cuts will not help the economy, yet they still plan to do it to help the economy. I can't take it...!!! If socialism is the right way to go and will solve every problem, then why won't they push it in place as soon as they are in office? Because they know that it will hurt us like nothing else economically.

So...
While I am going to support the new President, I cannot find favor with some of the things he is already talking about. Hopefully, things go different and Claire has a moment of clarity.
Good Luck, Obama.
