I don't really care if you agree or not. Just saying what I think.

Straightening Healthcare

This healthcare debate is getting really, really heated. Everyone is trying to get their plugs in to defeat the other side. I have heard it all and I want to straighten some of it out.

Right Argument:
Poor people already have healthcare. Emergency rooms are not allowed to deny anyone treatment.
Left Response:
Hospitals will treat you but not give ongoing care or preventative treatment. Millions of poor people do not have healthcare.
My Response:
If conservatives want to frame this debate correctly, they will stop using Emergency Rooms for examples. The fact is, all states have Medicare/Medicaid available. Furthermore, the poorer you are, the better you qualify. In the state of Tennessee, the cut-off for Tenn-Care is $47,000/yr with 3 kids. In the state of Missouri, the cut-off is similar, but Medicaid is available at a reduced rate for people making higher incomes. If you are poor and you don't have health insurance it is because you are lazy, stupid, or both. The bottom line is that we already have healthcare available to everyone who can't afford it. If anyone is getting screwed, its people like me who work hard, make a good wage, but don't qualify for gov't assistance. Not saying I want it, but asserting that the poor among us are suffering is factually and intellectually dishonest.

Right Argument:
The new Healthcare bill will have care providers indoctrinating my children as the state sees fit.
Left Response:
Oh no! Your children might receive regular checkups and parents may be given information to help them raise their kids.
My Response:
Both arguments are out of line, but what bothers me about this one is that someone will be checking up on you and your children whether or not you want it. When Ben was born, we did Parents as Teachers. This was a MO state thing where they would send a social worker to see you and help you much in the same way that this reform bill will. But it was by choice. Under the new plan, it is required. That's where I have the problem. Don't remove my choice and don't force your way into my home.

Right Argument:
The new Healthcare bill will have end of life panels who will decide who gets coverage and who doesn't. Old and infirm people will be denied coverage. This is eugenics.
Left Response:
Your current policy has the same clause. Get over it.
My Response:
First of all, the left's response makes not sense. Let me be perfectly clear about this: JUST BECAUSE MY INSURANCE POLICY MAY HAVE THIS CLAUSE DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT IS OK FOR THE GOV'T's PLAN TO HAVE IT!!! Do you get it? Just because your spouse is cheating on you doesn't mean that you can cheat on your spouse. Wrong is wrong. Period. Now, to the Right - I don't really think that things are going to get all "Logan's Run" so calm down a bit. I do have a problem with the Government espousing healthcare for all while including clauses that will decide who does and who doesn't get healthcare. It either will or it won't. Period.

Right Argument:
This bill, if passed, will cost employers massive amounts of money causing a rift in the economy that will promote inflation and lead to a nation-wide depression.
Left Response:
People will have more money in their paychecks because they will not have to pay for healthcare. That is great for the economy. Business owners are a bunch of fat-cats who can afford it.
My Response:
In this case, the only baloney is the Left Response. If I no longer have to pay for my healthcare because the government mandates that my employer pay for it, then that is that last raise I will see for a very long time if I still have a job. Let me give you an example. Where I work, we have several revenue sharing operations. The proceeds go directly to the owner and his wife under a separate corporation. They in turn pay the company for the costs of labor and support. They easily pull in $250,000 a month after costs. The only money that the company makes is when it actually sells product. When things got slow earlier this year, the owner and his wife did not write a bigger check to the company to cover costs, they laid off, cut hours, and raised product costs. That's how business works. If every company in the US was forced to pay for healthcare or face a fine and other legal trouble, they won't just shrug it off. Stuff will cost more, wages will stagnate or reduce, and unemployment will rise. Works everytime it is tried.

Hope I could clear that up for any of you. And watch out for those "foot amputating" doctors.

But you have to wait in line for, like, an hour to sign up for medicaid/medicare and then it takes, like, an hour to fill out the paperwork and then you have to wait, like two weeks to find out if you qualify. It's, like, such a pain and not worth my unemployed time.
